Yay! You're engaged! Let's be honest, most likely you have already done a lot of Pinterest pinning and idea dumping, long before you said the official “yes.” So you probably have a good idea of what you want when it comes to your wedding and what you don't want. Did you know that one of the first five vendors secured by a couple for their wedding is their photographer? As a wedding photographer, based in Northeastern Pennsylvania, capturing someone’s wedding is an honor and a big responsibility. I get to document one of the most important days of your life!
But before photographing the ceremony and cake cutting, you are most likely going to get engagement images done. And you should! Getting engagement photos done is a great opportunity for you to work with your photographer prior to your wedding. On that special day, you will spend most of it with your photographer (even more than you will with your future spouse, as crazy as that may be). That being said, an engagement session is essential to get to know your photographer and have an adventure in the meantime.
An adventurous engagement shoot doesn’t have to mean rock climbing a mountainside (although that would be awesome). It can be as simple as going to a local watering hole, finding a cool vista, or walking through a dense forest; there are so many locations that can take your engagement images to the next level. It's really an opportunity to take a step out of the ordinary with your other half and have someone photograph you at your best. Question...
How many times have you been somewhere beautiful and thought, “Man, I wish someone was here to take pictures of us?”
Well, now is your chance!
One of my favorite things to do with my engaged couples is to plan out our session. We bounce ideas around and collaborate about places we know
of and research ones that we don't (thank you All Trails). Once we agree on a location and plan out the details (shot ideas, wardrobe, etc.) it’s go time. Some of my favorite engagement photoshoots are the ones where we spent some time exploring and looking for all different types of natural backdrops.
Trust me, when it comes to your engagement images, GO BIG. The more adventurous, the better. You can get regular, run of the mill, portraits any time. Now's the time to have some fun, buy that outfit, take the trip.
And let's not forget, hire a photographer like me to come along and photograph it!
You won’t regret it :)
My Advice:
Get dressed up, a flowy dress of suit jacket could be a HUGE wow factor
Consider getting your hair and make up done, why not take advantage of your photo shoot
Bring an extra pair of shoes, no one should have to hike in heels or loafers
Accept the elements, they could make your images even better
Pack a water & a granola
Wear a good deodorant ;)
And my biggest piece of advice: Have fun with each other!
